FairClimateFund

FairClimateFund is an organization that, together with individuals and businesses, aims for a fair climate: a world where those contributing the most to climate change invest in climate projects benefiting those most vulnerable to its consequences. From calculating the CO₂ footprint to CO₂ reduction and compensation—everything is covered. FairClimateFund focuses on cleaner cooking and reforestation projects. These climate projects reduce CO₂ emissions and deforestation while improving living conditions for people in developing countries.

Investing in fair climate projects for those most vulnerable to climate change’s effects is a viable solution. FairClimateFund offers a wide range of sustainably certified climate projects, such as implementing cleaner cooking stoves and forest projects. These projects are certified according to the standards of the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Plan Vivo, Gold Standard, and/or the Fairtrade Climate Standard.

An ambitious CO₂ reduction plan is necessary to mitigate the worst consequences of climate change, but sometimes CO₂ emissions are unavoidable. The goal is to provide cleaner cooking solutions for half a million people and plant half a million trees by 2025, thereby reducing a million tons of CO₂.

Fairtrade certified climate projects

FairClimateFund aims to demonstrate that the CO₂ market can benefit those most vulnerable to climate change in a fair and effective manner. This means continuously striving for climate projects with the most significant social impact. A large portion of these climate projects is certified by the best certifications: Gold Standard and the Fairtrade Climate Standard. Moreover, these projects contribute to various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

FairClimateFund offers businesses and individuals CO₂ credits certified by the highest international standards, namely the Gold Standard certification (established by organizations including the World Wildlife Fund) and/or the Fairtrade Climate Standard. The Fairtrade Climate Standard is a relatively new standard developed by Fairtrade International and Gold Standard, in collaboration with FairClimateFund, based on the following principles:

  • Fairtrade minimum price

The end consumer pays a minimum price for Fairtrade Carbon Credits, covering all project costs.

  • Ownership

Local households own the Fairtrade Carbon Credits and use them to pay for their cooking stoves.

  • Fairtrade premium

In addition to the minimum price, a premium is paid. This premium is managed by the local cooperative and invested in climate adaptation activities.

  • Bottom-up capacity building

Local communities initiate climate projects, provide training, and handle monitoring and stove maintenance.

  • Reducing CO₂ emissions for end consumers

Consumers of Fairtrade Carbon Credits have a CO₂ reduction plan.

FloorJaxx and Birds, Bees & Business

Last September, the FloorJaxx crew took a flight to turn a beautiful wedding upside down on a fantastic island in Greece, resulting in CO₂ reduction through the Birds, Bees & Business project in Burkina Faso.

This compensation contributes to CO₂ emission reduction and improved living conditions for women in Burkina Faso. FairClimateFund provides local women with the opportunity to use improved cooking stoves. These F3PA cookstoves are made from local materials and reduce wood consumption by 23.4%, thus alleviating pressure on trees. Additionally, women are trained in a Climate Academy. One of the Academy’s activities involves planting various trees, leading to a more diverse landscape. This attracts bees and other insects, enhancing pollination and agricultural production. Women benefit from increased yields and sales of shea nuts and other (tree) products. This initiative by LoveSound and FairClimateFund offers future generations of women the opportunity for sustainable income.
